Florida AC Rebates and Tax Credits in 2026

What is still available, and what is not, if you replace your air conditioner or heat pump in Florida in 2026.

The federal AC and heat pump tax credit ended in 2025

The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) paid up to 30% of the cost of a qualifying heat pump (up to $2,000) or central air conditioner (up to $600). The July 2025 federal budget law ended it early. The IRS now states the credit is not allowed for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

That means a system installed in 2026 does not qualify, even if it was bought in 2025. Many websites still say the credit runs to 2032; that was the original schedule and is no longer correct.

FPL's $200 AC rebate

FPL customers can get a $200 instant rebate on a new central AC or heat pump that meets these terms:

  • The system is rated 15.2 SEER2 or higher.
  • Both the indoor and outdoor units are replaced.
  • It is installed by an FPL participating independent contractor. Owner-builder and DIY installs do not qualify.

Be upfront about the math: the single-stage Goodman systems we stock are rated 14.0 to 14.5 SEER2, so they do not qualify. A 15.2 SEER2 system usually costs more than $200 extra, so for many homes the lower-cost compliant system still comes out ahead. Ask us about higher-efficiency special orders if you want the rebate.

If you are not an FPL customer, check with your own utility. Rebate programs vary by provider.

Florida's IRA home energy rebates have not launched

The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act funded two state-run rebate programs. Florida's are run by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) as HEEHR (High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebates) and HOMES (Home Owner Managing Energy Savings). As of October 2026, FDACS says both programs "are expected to launch in the future." No consumer rebates are being paid yet. We will update this page when that changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a federal tax credit for a new AC in 2026?
No. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) is not allowed for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, so a system installed in 2026 does not qualify.
Does FPL give a rebate for a new AC?
Yes. FPL offers a $200 instant rebate on new central AC or heat pump systems rated 15.2 SEER2 or higher, with both indoor and outdoor units replaced and installation by an FPL participating independent contractor.
Has Florida launched the IRA heat pump rebates?
Not yet. FDACS runs Florida's HEEHR and HOMES programs and says both are "expected to launch in the future." No consumer rebates are being paid as of October 2026.
Can I get the FPL rebate if I install the AC myself?
No. The FPL rebate requires installation by an FPL participating independent contractor.
