Is a 5 ton heat pump the right size?
A 5 ton heat pump delivers 60,000 BTU/h of cooling and typically fits about 2,400 to 3,000 square feet in Florida. Heat pumps are sized for cooling here, because cooling is by far the larger load. Confirm with a Manual J load calculation before you buy; see the sizing guide.
5 ton heat pump or 5 ton air conditioner?
Both cool the same way. The heat pump adds efficient heating, so you rarely need the backup strip heater. Our 5 ton Goodman AC system is in stock today. The heat pump is a special order and usually costs more. If your current system is a heat pump, or you want to cut winter heating costs, a heat pump is worth the wait.
